‘Meow Madness’ at humane society

To celebrate “Adopt a Cat Month” and help find homes for the many kittens that will be graduating from the recently opened “Paws to Success” nursery, the San Diego Humane Society will be holding its annual “Meow Madness” adoption event on Saturday, June 6. The event will include the grand unveiling of the newly redesigned cat habitat, “Cataquarium.”

In addition to the habitat unveiling, Meow Madness will feature special incentives including gift baskets for the first 25 adopters to take home an adult cat and a Feline Fun Fair with pet-friendly vendors, an “Ask a Trainer” booth, free refreshments, and more. The San Diego Humane Society hopes to find homes for 150 cats and kittens during the month of June. Special “Buddy Adoption” incentives will be available for adult cat adoptions through June 30: first time adopters who adopt one cat can adopt a second cat with the Buddy Adoption fee waived. Adopters who took home a cat from the San Diego Humane Society in the past also qualify for the waived fee.

“Cataquarium” was the winning design chosen from a design competition hosted by the San Diego Humane Society and the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Members, both student and professional, from the ASID San Diego chapter were invited to enter the redesign challenge. Anne Kellett of the design company A Kinder Space created the winning habitat, which will feature cat-friendly spaces in an aquarium theme. An ASID Professional Member, Kellet has been designing for more than 30 years and teaches part time at the Design Institute of San Diego.
