Miss California is runner-up for Miss USA
Miss California USA
, a San Diego Christian College student, is the first runner-up for Miss USA. The title of Miss USA went to Miss North Carolina USA Kristen Dalton.
The pageant, hosted by “My Name is Earl” star Nadine Velazquez and Billy Bush of “Access Hollywood,” was held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino last night.
Prejean’s answer to the final question of the night, which was about legalizing same-sex marriage, was:
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”
Her answer elicited some cheers and some boos from the audience.
On Monday’s Billy Bush Show, Prejean said of her answer: “It did cost me my crown. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.”
Prejean, 21, was crowned Miss California USA on Nov. 23. She has worked for a La Jolla modeling agency and is also Miss La Jolla.
