Multicultural Fair next weekend

Local Girl Scout Michelle Chen presents a Multicultural Fair on from 12:30-3 p.m. on Sept. 26, at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center. The 16-year-old from Troop 1332 planned the event to earn her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts that only 3 percent of members earn.

In addition to her 65 hours devoted to her community service project, Michelle must also shadow a professional for 40 hours and have 30 hours of leadership service.

The Multicultural Fair will offer food samplings from different ethnicities as well as cultural games and crafts. Restaurants such as Star of India, Daphne’s and Panda Express will donate their food.

As part of her project, Michelle is also creating a welcome brochure for new Carmel Valley families. She has had it translated into different languages like Chinese and Korean to make the transition easier to new international imports.

The brochures will be available at the Sept. 26 fair.
