National Merit Program names local semifinalists

National Merit Scholarship Corporation has selected 16,000 semifinalists nationwide in their annual scholarship program, including a large group from local high schools. Torrey Pines High School had the most semifinalists with 49.

These seniors will continue in the competition for 8,200 scholarships worth more than $36 million.
