New yoga studio targets stress
People may have more reason than ever to be stressed nowadays, but Sculpt Fusion Yoga is bringing a bit of peace and tranquility to Carmel Valley.
The studio’s tagline is “powerful body, peaceful mind” and offers beginning and intermediate Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga. Classes are conducted in a heated room in order to promote flexibility, injury prevention and detoxification.
In addition, teacher training, nutrition workshops, children’s yoga and a circuit-training boot-camp class are offered. The classes are accompanied by music and the studio offers a yoga sculpt class, which incorporates weights - setting Sculpt Fusion apart from other studios.
“It’s not your typical yoga experience,” co-owner Kim Stahler said. “It’s fun, it’s upbeat, but you’re going to experience some of the things that people go to yoga for as far as feeling relaxed and calm and invigorated all at the same time.”
The studio is also equipped with state-of-the-art ventilation and heating systems as well as an anti-microbial floor to prevent bacteria growth. Showers for men and women are also provided.
The unusually large yoga room features misters to cool off and an in-store boutique with yoga clothes, mats, DVDs and accessories.
“We pride ourselves on creating a spa-like atmosphere,” co-owner Olivia Ostrid said.
Stahler was Ostrid’s personal trainer. However, Ostrid persuaded Stahler to try yoga and both quickly agreed that Carmel Valley was in need of a yoga studio.
“We wanted it for ourselves, and we just thought during this stressful time, this is exactly the right time to do it. We didn’t hesitate a day,” Stahler said.
The benefits of yoga include strength, flexibility, peace of mind, improved sleep and digestion and boosted immunity, the women said.
“We both kind of quit everything, running and all of that, because yoga really takes care of all your needs physically, emotionally and mentally,” Ostrid said. She also said her studio boasts some of the best yoga instructors in San Diego.
“Especially in these crazy times, it’s made me more focused and calm, and helps me sleep,” said Lisa Doherty, who takes a class at the studio daily.
