Newcomers welcomed to school

R. Roger Rowe School hosted a Newcomer’s Welcome Barbecue on Sept. 3, greeting new faces before the first day of school. The Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation served up a spread from Joe’s Smokin’ BBQ on the blacktop. To carry on a Western theme, tables were decorated with bandanas and cowboy boots stuffed with fresh flowers.

School started for Rowe on Sept. 4 with a welcome back coffee for parents. At that morning’s Rancho Santa Fe Association meeting, Rancho Santa Fe Patrol Chief Matt Wellhouser said that the traffic flow on the first day of school at the campus, which is under construction, went better than they expected.

Bill Beckman, association president, said he was thankful that for what he considers an “enormous” project for the village, the school construction has so far had a minimal impact on the surrounding community.
