The all-star season just got longer for the North Shore Girls Softball League’s (NSGSL) 10U Gold team. After winning at the district and state levels, the team qualified to move on to the Western National Tournament in Tucson Aug. 2-8.

During the Southern California State Tournament in Lancaster, Ca., the girls battled five teams in 100-degree weather, finishing ninth out of 32 teams in their division. Lauren Scheg pitched 26 innings in four games and went 3-1 with 12 strikeouts, with catcher Erin Vandertie behind the plate. Infielders Stavi Augur, Cassie Kaelber, Ally Harvey, and Sydny Poh made outstanding plays on defense.

Meanwhile, outfielders Katie Nicholi, Courtney Kim, Katie Sheng, and Morgan Reed took on the heavy hitters, catching everything that came their way. Other team members Kylie Braunreiter, Niki Kim, Whitley Ballard, and Maura Wong also contributed to the team’s success.

“The girls gave it everything they had,” said team Manager Tim Scheg. “Despite playing four games on Saturday, they were focused and never lost sight of their goal. We are so proud of the girls and looking forward to doing our best at the Western Nationals.”

While the team is looking forward to the tournament in Tucson, they are also looking for support from the community to help finance the trip.
