Patrons of Del Mar’s Flower Hill Promenade may soon leave feeling as fresh as a newly cut rose.

That is if they spend some time in the recently opened Spa Gregorie’s, an Orange County-based day spa and salon that just expanded to San Diego. The spa, two floors of massage rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, and suites for singles and couples, is the culmination of a multimillion-dollar renovation of a unit that was also formerly a spa.

Founder Angela Cortright, who opened her first spa 11 years ago, said she followed the same formula for the Del Mar edition that she has for the previous two.

“I built the spa that I wanted to go to,” she said. “I wanted a very nurturing, healing place that appealed to all the senses, so what you smell, what you taste, what you see, what you hear, the fabric that touches your skin, everything just transports you to another place.”

The spa’s open-atrium lobby can begin that journey. There is a spiraling staircase that leads up to a couple’s suite and other facilities, or one can navigate its ground-floor halls to candle-lit massage rooms or a dark relaxation room. A Vichy shower, in which a client is sprayed with warm water while lying on a table, is another service offered. Calming music is heard from above almost immediately after walking through the entryway.

“It should be an immersive experience when they enter a spa,” Cortright said. “It’s mental, it’s physical, it’s spiritual, and it’s all of that combined that delivers the spa experience if you do it well.”

Kelly LaPrade, a recent San Diego State University graduate, got a facial from Spa Gregorie’s last week. “Afterwards, my face was absolutely glowing,” the Arizona native said. “I’ve had facials and massages at home, but this one was just as beautiful if not more than the ones at home.”

A one-hour massage by itself costs $95, but clients can buy package deals that start at $139. To celebrate horse racing season, the spa will offer a “trifecta” deal in August. It includes a massage, facial and hair service for $159.

“Love Flower Hill, love Del Mar, everybody we’ve met has been gracious and welcoming,” Cortright said of her latest endeavor. “Our instincts were right, there is no spa of this caliber in this area. It was a no-brainer.”
