Orchestra Nova holding talent competition
Orchestra Nova, under the leadership of Maestro Jung-Ho Pak, will offer the first classical music talent competition ever held where the winner will be selected by the concert audience and the Internet community.
Three finalists will be selected to perform with the orchestra in three concerts (March 5, 6 and 8) where audience members will be the final judges.
The winner will also perform with the orchestra next season.
The competition is open to amateur classical musicians (no age limit) whose principal source of income does not come from public performances of classical music and who are residents of San Diego County.
Students of local San Diego institutions of higher learning and members of the armed forces who reside in San Diego Count are also eligible.
Applicants must submit a video, application form, and $10 non-refundable fee. The video can be posted online (YouTube or a web site) and the application form and fee can be completed online. Alternatively, they can all be sent to the orchestra’s office.
All materials and fees must be received by 5 p.m., Dec. 28.
Semi-finalist winners will be posted on the Orchestra Nova web site Dec. 31, and semi-finalist winners will be invited to perform at a public audition/concert on Jan. 31.
Internet voting (one person/one vote) for applicants will begin Dec. 31 and end Jan. 30. Internet voting for finalists will run Feb. 1-March 4. Audience members at each concert will cast a vote during intermission. The winner will be announced at the final concert.
The concert will begin with Mozart’s “The Impresario Overture” and will end with Schubert’s “Symphony No. 5.”
The three finalists will perform their selections with the orchestra before the intermission.
