Owner of Padres gives $2.1 million to Scripps
The owner of the San Diego Padres gave $2.1 million to The Scripps Research Institute, it was announced today.
The gift, from John Moores, will be used to help fund a $50 million initiative to recruit new researchers and to sustain and expand the work of scientists at The Scripps Research Institute.
Moores, who chairs Scripps Research’s board, has donated more than $22 million to the institute.
The Scripps Research Institute is one of the world’s largest nonprofit biomedical research organizations. It is based in La Jolla and has a campus in Palm Beach County, Fla.
