San Diego Suburban Newspapers is pleased to announce that we received two prestigious awards during recent journalism contests.
The Rancho Santa Fe Record received a First Place award in the 2008 California Newspapers Publishers Association’s Better Newspapers Contest in the category of Local News Coverage (circulation: 4,301 to 11,000) for the story, “Saving Rancho Santa Fe.” The story, written by Dan Weisman, involved coverage of the October 2007 wildfires. The award was announced during the CNPA’s annual Press Summit held Oct. 25 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City.
Also last month, reporter Laura Peterson won a First Place award in the San Diego Press Club’s 35th Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards for her Solana Beach Sun story, “Local Rocket Science Goes for the Moon.” The story won in the category of Science/Technology - Non-Daily Newspapers. Laura’s award was presented Oct. 21 at the San Diego Hall of Champions, during the Press Club’s annual awards dinner.
We congratulate the winners.
