‘Pet Rescue Day on the Bay’ to be held May 14th.

Salt air will mingle with a slight aroma of damp fur on Thursday, May 14 when Hornblower Cruises and Events “joins paws” with Helen Woodward Animal Center for the ninth annual “Pet Rescue Day on the Bay.”

From 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. dog owners are invited to donate a new or gently used blanket or towel in exchange for a ticket redeemable for a free one-hour big bay cruise on a Hornblower yacht. Use the ticket on May 14 and you can take your well-behaved dog along at no charge.

“Hornblower Cruises is thrilled to host this event each year on the Big Bay,” said Rebecca Milkey, Director of Marketing for Hornblower Cruises & Events. “Pet owners love to take their dogs on the cruise and Helen Woodward Animal Center always needs towels and blankets.”

“Our friends at Hornblower invite dog owners to donate at least one new or gently used blanket or towel for the animals,” HWAC spokesman John Van Zante said. “In return they will receive a free ticket for a one-hour big bay cruise that they can use any time this year. If they use the ticket on Thursday, May 14, they can take their dog along on the cruise!”

In addition to the cruise, donors will also receive a doggie bag from PETCO with treats and coupons, samples of Frosty Paws ® Frozen Treat for Dogs, and other fun items for pets and their people, while supplies last.

Van Zante said the Center is in constant need of blankets and towels.

“In 2008 Helen Woodward Animal Center found families for 2,748 orphaned dogs and cats. A soft blanket or a warm towel can help provide a pet with warmth and comfort until its new family arrives to take it home forever.”

Hornblower Cruises & Events is located on the San Diego Embarcadero at 1066 North Harbor Drive. All dogs on the May 14 cruises must be well behaved and on a leash. May 14 is the only day that dogs can accompany their owners on the cruises. Cruise departures are scheduled for 10, 11 a.m., 12:30, 1:45, 3 and 4:15 p.m.
