Philanthropy Spotlight: San Diego Grantmakers
In 1976, the San Diego State University Foundation gathered with the San Diego Community Foundation to create a network of grant-making groups in San Diego and to find a way to address the problems connected with charitable giving.
In 1980, the newly minted San Diego Grantmakers emerged as part of that solution - an organization designed to encourage connection, development and collaborative grant-making among San Diego’s many philanthropic institutions.
SDG convenes collaborations such as the Child Welfare Funders, the Homelessness Working Group and Education Funders to enhance the impact of organized philanthropy. The Grantmakers also offer programs throughout the year to help volunteer and charitable member organizations make the most of their resources with skill-development and funding seminars as well as educational lectures and an annual conference.
