Philanthropy Spotlight: The Del Mar Foundation
Since its founding in 1982, The Del Mar Foundation has worked to promote civic pride, community spirit and to build and preserve beach and parklands for current and future residents.
The foundation also plays an important role in supporting local arts and culture. It supports a variety of children’s programs (the Del Mar Junior Lifeguards), has contributed to the restoration of the Del Mar Library and construction of the Powerhouse Community Center, and also organizes the popular Summer Twilight concert series and the First Thursday music and educational series.
Recognizing that Del Mar would be a markedly different place without the “mar,” the foundation has taken responsibility for building and managing the Lagoon Endowment to ensure continued financing for future San Dieguito Lagoon restoration and public access work once the current $86 million restoration by Southern California Edison is complete.
The Del Mar Foundation is also working to build a similar, permanent Community Endowment for the continued funding of programs for the city of Del Mar and its residents.
