Philanthropy Spotlight: United Warrior Survivor Foundation
The United Warrior Survivor Foundation was founded in 2002 as an organization exclusively dedicated to serving the needs of the surviving spouses of Navy, Army, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations personnel killed in the line of duty since Sept. 11, 2001. The foundation serves the needs of surviving spouses through biannual survivor conferences, peer-to-peer counseling and mentorship, survivor transition assistance, emergency financial aid, financial planning and bereavement counseling.
The peer-to-peer counseling and mentorship program pairs newly widowed wives with trained counselors who have themselves lost a spouse under similar circumstances. The vital program offers the grieving spouse an understanding ear while, at the same time, helping the counselor progress in her own healing process.
UWSF ensures that survivors have access to trained, professional counselors and social workers. Counseling sessions and services can be arranged in the survivor’s hometown or within reasonable geographic proximity to their home.
