Power outage hits area

A single car accident caused a power outage Wednesday afternoon to about 1,600 homes in Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach and areas east of Interstate 5.

Additionally, the accident led to a road closure for Via de la Valle, according to Julie Tabor at the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District.

Around noon, a vehicle drove into a power pole at Via de la Valle and Las Polomas, near the Morgan Run Golf Resort. Tabor said that the driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center.

SDG&E had restored to all but a few homes within an hour and the others were expected to be back in service by mid-afternoon. However, the stretch of Via de la Valle near the accident scene was to remain closed in both directions until repairs are made.
