Program promotes winter exercise

The Blue Angels want people to know that Winter Feels Good.

The Blue Angels, a youth ski and snowboard program founded by Del Mar resident Heidi Emery, is participating in the national Winter Feels Good campaign focusing on the health and fitness benefits of snow sports.

They can help keep children active during winter months, when, according to Montana State University health expert Peter Rehor children burn half as many calories as they do in summer due to a substantial drop in activity.

Starting Jan. 24, the Blue Angels is offering five weekends of ski and snowboarding trips to the Mountain High resort. Children are picked up by bus at locations in Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe and La Jolla.

The Blue Angels are a full-service program offering transportation, meals and supervision for children to enjoy a full day on the slopes. All skill levels are welcome, whether they are first timers, intermediate cruisers or expert riders. Participants receive a complimentary helmet from ProTec and the program offers discounts on equipment rentals.
