‘Protect the Skin You Are In’ at Carmel Creek School

Students at Carmel Creek Elementary School participated in an event on May 24 titled “Protect the Skin You Are In” by practicing sun safe habits. Parents, students and staff were encouraged to:

  1. Slip on tightly-woven, loose-fitting clothing that covers as much of the body as possible.
  2. Slop on sunscreen.
  3. Slap on a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears.
  4. Seek shade. Especially between the hours of 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  5. Slide on sunglasses
Children were all provided with a book mark reviewing sun safety and students that wore a hat on Friday received a popsicle after school. May is skin cancer awareness month, as one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.
