Pug party patrons take pride in their pooches

Pug Rescue of San Diego hosted its 19th annual Pug Party on May 1 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. A record crowd of 516 pugs (and their owners) showed up to support Pug Rescue, an organization that rescues unwanted, abandoned and relinquished pugs and places them in loving new homes.

This year’s theme was Pugs Around the World and pugs were dressed in everything from sombreros to kilts. There was a gondola ride offering pugs cruises around the party, which featured pug vendors, vet exams, nail clipping, pug facials, contests and a pug cafe where dog-friendly meatballs and chicken were gobbled up by the plate full.

Also in attendance at the party were several pugs looking for a foster family or a forever home. To learn more about pugs available for adoption, visit
