Red flag warning extended

A red flag warning signaling a high risk of wildfire will go into effect today in the valleys and mountains of San Diego County.

The warning issued by the National Weather Service will be in force from 11 a.m. today until 11 p.m. Friday.

A red flag warning is declared when high winds are expected to combine with warm temperatures and dry conditions to create “explosive fire growth potential.’’

East-to-northeast winds of between 15 and 25 miles per hour were expected today in the valleys and mountains, including portions of the Cleveland National Forest, gusting up to 40 mph through canyons and passes, according to the NWS.

Daytime humidity levels were expected to dip below 10 percent, with

little improvement overnight, NWS forecasters said.
