Gianna Granton, the owner of Repeat Boutique in Encinitas, wants women to know this: "We can all be fashion divas."
With her consignment shop offering up designer duds at not-so-boutique prices, everyone can find a high quality addition to their wardrobe.
"This has been my 30-year dream since I was a teenager," Granton said of owning her own shop.
Since she was a young girl she has always loved fabulous clothes but settled into a job working in the alternative healthcare field. Just last year was her "now or never" moment when she decided to open the store on a shoestring budget.
With the support of local women, she has filled her store with beautiful things — she brings in 30 to 100 new items every day.
"I like the unique. I like to get women out of the box they get stuck into," Granton said.
Sure, stock up on the classics, she said, but have a little fun; pick something a little wild or different — maybe a vintage dress with funky prints.
"We just have amazing things," said Granton as she flipped through the racks, pausing at a sequined sweater once owned by a Hollywood actress. "I'm just nuts about clothes."
She said about a third of the clothes in the store are brand new with the tags still attached. With the tags boasting the original sale price, it's easy to see what a steal the shop is — a new Catherine Malandino skirt was originally $298; now it's $36. A Neiman Marcus suit that was once $1,925 is now selling for $83 for the blazer and skirt.
There are full-length furs and extravagant gowns that have been worn to the Emmys, the Oscars and the Golden Globes.
"The loot I've found in here you would not believe," said customer Diane Cary wearing a blazer and belt she found at the shop. She was trying on a to-die-for white sweater and skirt set that came to the shop as a Paris original. "Gianna has exquisite taste and that's why I love it here. I can count on her."
