Rock on, Rockola

The sounds of good ole rock and roll just about drowned out the crash and boom of the waves on the beach in Del Mar Tuesday night. The crowd of concertgoers at Powerhouse Park was treated to some of their favorite oldies-but-goodies as they hipped and hopped to Rockola’s classic tunes.

The sunset rockfest was the second in the Del Mar Foundation’s series of summer concerts. These fun-filled evenings are made possible by generous support from the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Pam Slater-Price and the County of San Diego, the Poseidon Restaurant and Jake’s Restaurant.

“Jake’s Del Mar is privileged to sponsor the Del Mar Foundation’s Summer Concert Series in the park” said Lizzie Anderson of Jake’s said about their involvement.

This year, the concert series is going from good old American rock and roll to the spicy south-of-the-border sounds of Savor, a Carlos Santana tribute band. They’ll be making their appearance in the park on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The summer season finale will be held on Sept. 13 with the smooth and jazzy blues of Ruby and the Red Hots.

The Del Mar Foundation puts on these twilight concerts along with hosting a variety of other community events, including “First Thursdays,” children’s programs and holiday celebrations. For more information and how you can get involved, log on to the Web site at
