San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center offers a variety of services

San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center has served the San Diego community for more than 25 years with the philosophy of providing great quality care not only for injury management and disease but to bring each patient to the optimum level of health and wellness.

The center opened in its Sorrento Valley location in June 2010, although it has been in the Carmel Valley area for 10 years. The June move took them from 2,500 square feet in Piazza Carmel to a 12,000-square-foot facility in Sorrento Valley—the space allowing them to provide on-site physical therapy in the facility’s spacious gym.

The office specializes in family medicine services such as “well baby care,” women’s medicine, geriatrics, nutrition and weight control, skin wellness, EKG stress testing, acupuncture, annual physicals, and school and sports physicals.

In sports medicine, they specialize in injuries, conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology, performance enhancement, surgical procedures for athletes and special event medical coverage.

Additionally, they have locations at Grossmont and Alverado Medical Centers.

All of the doctors on staff are board certified and have gained strong reputations in San Diego. For example, Dr. Lee Ralph was been voted the “Top Doctor” by the San Diego County Medical Society for family medicine the past three years, and Dr. Allen Richburg serves as the team physician for the San Diego State Aztecs and is the head team physician for the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

Their doctors have covered San Diego’s athletic teams for over 25 years, everything from Gulls hockey to USA volleyball teams.

“We’re the doctors for those types of teams but we take care of everyone, from infants to grandmas and grandpas,” said Jan Brunsting, business administrator.

San Diego Sports Medicine also takes care of a lot of local high schools. Their doctors are on the sidelines at Torrey Pines High School, Santa Fe Christian, Westview High and Francis Parker, treating injuries and clearing athletes for play. Keeping prep sports in mind, the clinic is open on Saturdays for those injuries that may happen under the Friday night lights.

Dr. Rebeccah Rodriguez has been at the office for a little over a year, after completing her fellowship training at San Diego Sports Medicine. Board certified in sports and family medicine, she specializes in dance medicine and is the company physician for the San Diego Ballet, the Academy of Performing Arts of San Diego and participates in team coverage for the Charger cheerleaders.

“We take a teamwork approach to medicine,” Rodriguez said of the staff. “Not a day goes by that we’re not collaborating.”

Rodriguez said all the physicians are invested in learning, reading up on the best and latest care methods for patients.

“Everybody’s energetic and dedicated to the wellbeing of the patients,” Rodriguez said.
