Women’s professional tennis returns to San Diego as players from around the world compete Nov. 9-16 at the Santaluz Open.

The Santaluz Club will host the $50,000 pro circuit satellite event sponsored by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The tournament features 32 players in both singles and doubles matches, beginning on Sunday, Nov. 9, with several days of qualifying rounds. Main draw action is scheduled from Nov. 11-16.

“We are excited to host some of the best young female players on the circuit today as they pursue their dreams of playing on the WTA professional tennis tour,” said Gordon Carter, general manager of the Santaluz Club. “This community is rich with tennis players and sports fans alike who will eagerly welcome these talented competitors.”

With the retirement of the popular Acura Classic tennis event held locally for nearly three decades, this is the only professional women’s event on the schedule for San Diego County, he added.

The private Santaluz Club has six hard courts with restricted parking and spectator seating for only 200. Tickets are $5 per day or $20 for the week, and can purchased in advance or day of event at the tournament site. Limited food and beverages will be available for purchase.
