Seats open on Torrey Pines board
Torrey Pines residents are being encouraged to run for one of the six open seats on the Torrey Pines Community Planning Board, which holds its election on March 11.
The 16-seat board is the officially recognized local advisory group for Torrey Pines and is comprised of elected volunteers who are interested in evaluating issues affecting the community. The board makes recommendations and communicates neighborhood concerns to the city of San Diego and the Planning Department. The board is also part of the Community Planning Committee. Another key function of the board is to work with the city of San Diego’s Development Services Department in reviewing discretionary permits to help guide the architectural and landscaping design within the community.
Major issues currently being evaluated include the Caltrans Interstate-5 widening project and the I-5/Highway 56 connector proposals.
The following seats are up for election: business seat, residential seat for Area 1, two residential seats for Area 2 and two residential seats for Area 3.
Candidates must attend at least one board meeting before the election. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of the month at Del Mar Heights multi-purpose room, 13555 Boquita Drive.
Candidates are asked to announce their interest at the January or February meetings. For more information visit www.torreypinescommunity.org.
