Cathedral Catholic defeated Eastlake 5-2 in the Open Division championship game on June 4.

The Dons broke a scoreless deadlock in the top of the third inning with a four-run rally that set the tone for their seventh consecutive victory to close out the season.

Senior Quinn Hoffman and his younger brother Wyatt, a junior, each had two hits to lead the Dons.

The Hoffman brothers are the sons of legendary San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman.

Cole Mueller had a double and two RBI.

Preston Price pitched 2 2/3 clutch innings in relief of starter Connor Lunn to close out the championship.

Lunn, who was credited with the victory, allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Dons advanced to the championship after defeating Rancho Bernardo 2-1 in the lower division finals on May 31.

The Dons won behind a standout pitching performance from Sam Miller, who pitched a complete game three-hitter. Miller struck out two batters and allowed no walks.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 25-9.


Torrey Pines came within one victory of advancing to the Division I finals, but the Falcons lost to Granite Hills 5-2 on June 1.

The Falcons were held to two hits.

The loss followed a 3-1 victory over Granite Hills the previous day, its first loss in the double-elimination tournament that forced a second meeting between the two teams.

Kyle Hurt pitched a complete-game four-hitter in which he struck out 11 batters to lead the Falcons.

Gus Patrick contributed a two-run double to lead the Falcons offensively.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 21-13.
