Boys basketball:
Most of the team was still in middle school when the streak began.
Some current Torrey Pines players could be in college before it ends.
They’ve all been part of a streak that the Falcons extended to 25 games with a 53-39 Palomar League victory over Westview on Jan. 22.
Torrey Pines hasn’t lost a league game since experiencing a 55-50 setback at the hands of Mt. Carmel on Feb. 6, 2013.
Jackson Strong, Steven Hickman and Hayden Helfrich each scored 10 points to lead the Falcons.
Strong also had 10 rebounds.
Jacob Gilliam added nine points and seven rebounds.
The victory followed a 60-49 league win against Poway on Jan. 19 in which Gilliam led the Falcons with 17 points. Strong and Dylan Bona added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Falcons improved to 2-0 in league and 14-4 overall for the season.
San Diego Jewish Academy rallied from an early deficit to defeat Rock Academy 68-54 in an Ocean League game on Jan. 20.
The Lions trailed 14-8 after the first quarter but outscored their opponent 22-10 to take a six-point lead into the intermission.
Jordan Battaglia scored 17 points to lead the Lions. Sam Deverett contributed 15 points and Cody Brown and Ivan Fang each added 13 points.
The Lions improved to 2-1 in league and 9-9 overall for the season.
San Dieguito Academy defeated San Pasqual 65-43 in an Avocado League East game on Jan. 22.
Carter Hall scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs. Seth Frankel and Garrett Stone each added 10 points.
The Mustangs improved to 5-10 in league and 1-1 overall for the season.
Girls basketball:
After a 1-3 start, things are looking up for San Dieguito Academy.
A week into Avocado League East play, the Mustangs are tied for first place after opening with two wins.
Their most recent victory was a 42-36 overtime win against San Pasqual in a league game on Jan. 22.
Emma Schneir scored 26 points to lead the Mustangs.
The victory followed a 40-37 league win against Escondido three days earlier in which JoJo Davis led the Mustangs with 15 points and Schneir added eight points.
The Mustangs improved to 2-0 in league and 8-6 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian rallied from a slow start for a 58-57 overtime victory over Horizon Christian in a Coastal League game opener for both teams on Jan. 20.
The Eagles trailed 18-10 after the first quarter.
Ashley Kowack scored 19 points to lead the Eagles and California Cubel added 16 points. Peyton Steele contributed 10 points.
The Eagles improved to 11-7 overall for the season.
Torrey Pines lost to Westview 75-67 in a Palomar League game on Jan. 22.
Sierra Campisano led the Falcons with 30 points and 20 rebounds.
Angelina Roque added 13 points and Rachel Shen and Isabella Hoang contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The loss followed a 58-43 win against Poway three days earlier in which Campisano led the Falcons with 22 points, 18 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Hoang added 18 points, six steals and three assists.
The Falcons fell to 1-1 in league and 13-5 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic lost to West Hills 53-25 in a nonleague game on Jan. 23.
Natalie Rotherham scored 10 points to lead the Dons.
The loss followed a 50-26 victory over Mission Bay in a Western League game the previous day in which Kaylee Stiffler scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Dons and Skyler Pierce added 11 points.
The Dons improved to 3-2 in league and 5-12 overall for the season.
Girls soccer:
Torrey Pines remains unbeaten through 11 games to start the season after the Falcons played Westview to a 0-0 tie in a Palomar League game on Jan. 21.
The Falcons two days earlier defeated Poway 3-1 in a league opener for both teams.
Callie Petrey-Juarez scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Falcons.
Daniela Nelson and Christina Bragado each scored one goal, and Jena Rasmussen and Katie Dove each had one assist.
The Falcons improved to 1-0-1 in league and 7-0-4 overall for the season.
La Costa Canyon defeated El Camino 1-0 in an Avocado League West game on Jan. 22.
Kami Hoban scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Colie Martin.
The Mavericks improved to 2-0 in league and 8-2-4 overall for the season.
Cathedral Catholic played Scripps Ranch to a 1-1 tie in a Western League game on Jan. 21.
Olivia Erlbeck scored the Dons’ only goal.
The Dons improved to 2-0-1 in league and 11-3-3 overall for the season.
