Moms Offering Moms Support (MOMS), a club where stay-at-home moms can socialize with other moms and their children, will open a new chapter in Carmel Valley in September. This support group for moms has more than 2,000 chapters across the U.S.

“I have been a part of a MOMS club in Portland, Ore., and had such a great experience there I wanted to bring that to my new home in Carmel Valley,” said Ericka Sexton, the new chapter president.

“We are a new chapter, so we will do a lot of activities with the Mira Mesa MOMS club at first,” Sexton said.

The activities that will be available for members include children’s daytime activities, moms’ meetings days, local field trips, a moms night out and fundraising activities.

The online Carmel Valley MOMS club calendar officially launches along with the club in September.

Along with activities for moms and children, MOMS club members often organize volunteer and charity support activities over the course of the year. This helps moms feel more connected to their communities and less isolated, Sexton said.

Sexton explained that the popularity of MOMS clubs, which were started in 1983 by Mary James, reflects the growing number of stay-at-home moms and their hopes to find other women dealing with the same issues.

“Moms who work part time or even full time are encouraged to become members, though most of our activities will take place during the day,” Sexton said. The chapter is also looking for leadership support and new ideas from members.

Membership in the club is $25 per year. For more information and to sign up for a MOMS club chapter near you, please visit
