CCA’s Creative Writing Club to hold fundraiser at Chipotle in Carmel Valley
Canyon Crest Academy’s Creative Writing Club is holding a dinner on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Carmel Valley Chipotle to support the 4th Annual CCA Writers’ Conference. All are welcome to attend the event.
The fundraiser runs from 5-8 p.m. The Carmel Valley Chipotle is located at 3881 Valley Centre Drive, San Diego. Supporters should let the cashier know that their order is part of the fundraiser.
Thanks to fundraising by the CCA Creative Writing Club and sponsors like Chipotle, Summa Education, and Ranch and Coast Magazine, the CCA Writers’ Conference is a free all-day event.
Julia Camilleri, president of the club, notes, “This is the only free writing conference for high school students in the country. I’m proud of being part of this CCA tradition to bring such inspirational writing workshops to local high schools students.”
The conference will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Canyon Crest Academy. Over 200 high school students from all over San Diego will participate in workshops on a variety of topics, including writing short stories, plotting the best selling novel, poetry, playwriting, horror, fantasy, TV writing, songwriting, journalism, and more.
The keynote speaker is Jonathan Maberry, a New York Times bestselling author, four time Bram Stoker Award winner, and comic book writer. Several of Maberry’s novels are in development for movies and TV including V-Wars, Extinction Machine, Rot & Ruin, and Dead of Night.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase conference supplies, and pay for speaker and facility expenses. Companies and individuals interested in supporting the conference directly can email firstname.lastname@example.org for sponsorship opportunities.
The mission of the CCA Creative Writing Club is to expand creative writing opportunities for local high school students, regardless of whether or not they plan to pursue a writing career.
