Supporting Del Mar lifeguards

More than $16,000 was raised last Sunday during a tile-painting benefit organized by the Friends of the Powerhouse. The personalized tiles will eventually be placed on a new Del Mar Safety Center and monies raised will be directed towards the project.

The Friends of the Powerhouse have raised nearly $100,000 for the safety center, which will replace the existing lifeguard headquarters on 17th Street. The event, which also featured a barbecue and concert, also saw a presentation of thanks to Community Services Director Pat Vergne from students at Del Mar Hills Academy in the form of a life preserver signed by students at the school.
