Solana Beach resident Rob Case orchestrated and swam a seven-mile stretch on Aug. 8, all to raise awareness for the San Diego Surfrider Foundation. The swimmer started off his trek at 8:30 a.m. at Fletcher Cove to cloudy skies and tough swells.

“I’ve been a part of Surfrider for a while now, and I had wanted to get back into really working with them for quite some time,” Case said.

“I really believe in (the Surfrider Foundation’s) mission and values, and I wanted to bring awareness of that to my friends and family,” Case said.

Case’s brother, Chip, and friend Kevin Straw paddled next to Case throughout the swim to offer support and physical encouragement, especially for the second half of the trek.

Thanks to this swim for awareness Case’s friends and family were able to help out the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

“Some people donated directly and some people donated their time to help me or the organization,” Case said. He is hoping to make this swim an annual event, possibly even with more swimmers, to raise money and awareness each year.

Case finished his trek at the South Ponto State Beach in Carlsbad just under four hours after he began to celebration and much needed food.
