Team USA tops Australia in international water polo tourney at La Jolla’s Coggan pool

FINA World Super League Final continues through Saturday
Team USA emerged winners over Australia, 15-14, in Tuesday’s FINA World League Super Final match at La Jolla’s Coggan Family Aquatic Center.Teams from Russia, China, Greece, Canada, the Netherlands, Hungary are also competing. The final games will be played Saturday, with play each day starting at 2:30 p.m.
For the U.S. team, Emily Feher (Santa Ana, CA/NYAC) stopped two tries in the shootout to preserve a win for the United States on day two of. Lolo Silver (Long Beach, CA/NYAC) delivered the winner as the last shooter in the shootout following the last Australia miss for a one goal win, according to USA Water Polo’s website.
Tuesday was marked by two other matches that ended in penalty shootouts with Greece defeating Russia, 17-15, and Hungary topping the Netherlands, 15-14. China took the fourth game, upsetting Canada, 7-4, in regulation time.
