On Dec. 18, more than 400 people attended a holiday open house at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe commemorating the hotel’s 50 years. The venerable hotel has been passed down to family members over the years and at the event, a private lane on the hotel property was dedicated to the owner’s grandfather, Steve Royce.

A time capsule holding various mementos such as the hotel’s menu and rate card as well as documents from the community and fire department were buried near the front lawn. It will be opened in 2018, “and we are going to enjoy seeing what we did in 2008,” said managing director Kerman Beriker.

The Inn’s special pomegranate martinis were served to accompany food prepared and served by chef John Beriker. The chef’s new cookbook, out just in time for the event, was also on sale near the front door.

Carolers from Rancho Santa Fe School and musicians from the Big Band “Variation” were also on hand to entertain guests.
