Tickets on sale for ‘tower’ party

The Friends of the Powerhouse will hold its annual “Party to the Tower” at 6 p.m. Aug. 4 at En Fuego in Del Mar.

According to organizers, the event is a midsummer night of fun and frivolity to raise funds for the construction of the new Beach Safety Center & Tower.

The party will include a Mexican buffet dinner, a no-host bar, and a live auction of one-of-a-kind items and services. The event has sold out every year. Limited tickets, priced at $45, are available by calling (858) 755-1641.

“The new Beach Safety Center and Tower will make the lifeguard’s difficult job easier and be a source of pride for community,” said Barbara Harper, president of Friends of the Powerhouse.

The Del Mar Beach attracts more than two million people annually, and the current lifeguard station is antiquated and inadequate for the lifeguards to work and function, Harper said. The new Beach Safety Center & Tower will bring a state-of-the-art facility to the City of Del Mar, which will make the lifeguard’s job must easier and be a source of pride for the community.
