Torrey Pines boys, girls soccer teams victorious
Boys soccer:
Trevor Newquist and Konor Collins each scored one goal to lead Torrey Pines to a 2-0 non-league victory over Calexico on Dec. 13 in the Granite Hills tournament.
Michael King contributed one assist for the Falcons, who improved to 4-0 overall.
Earlier in the day, Rodrigo Bravo scored the only goal for the Falcons in a 1-0 victory over Valhalla.
Cathedral Catholic opened its season with a 1-0 nonleague victory over Canyon Crest Academy on Dec. 11.
Josh Cintas, Kian Mogharabi and Paul Mazzella each scored one goal to lead the Dons.
Girls soccer:
Defending San Diego Section Div. I champion Torrey Pines faced a tough test when it played Rancho Bernardo in the title game of the non-league Barons Tournament Premier Division on Dec. 13 at Olympian High Stadium in Chula Vista.
The Falcons passed that test with flying colors, defeating Rancho Bernardo 3-1 in the championship game to win the early season tourney title.
Allie Bailey scored two goals and had one assists to lead the Falcons. Kylie McCarthy contributed one goal for the Falcons.
Boys basketball:
Torrey Pines hiked its record to 4-0 as the Falcons defeated Rancho Buena Vista in a Hilltop tournament game on Dec. 12.
Trevor Newquist scored 22 points to lead the Falcons and Colin Porter added 19 points.
Joe Rahon contributed 14 points for Torrey Pines and Nick Kerr added eight points.
Girls basketball:
Cathedral Catholic standout Victoria Lippert scored 24 points to lead the Dons to a 65-39 thrashing of Montgomery in a nonleague game on Dec. 11.
Katie Dollard added 11 points for the Dons, and Carolyn Franke added 1- points.
The Dons improved to 3-2 overall for the season.
Cross country:
Torrey Pines cross country standout Megan Morgan made a splash on the national stage, placing 24th overall at the prestigious Foot Locker National Championships at Balboa Park on Dec. 13.
Morgan ran the rugged 5,000 meter course in 18 minutes and 30 seconds.
Mission college Prep of San Luis Obispo sensation Jordan Hasay won the reace in 17:22.
