Trustee Lamborghini says goodbye

Longtime Del Mar Union School District Trustee Janet Lamborghini has spent her last day on the school board. Retiring after 16 years, she said her goodbyes at the board’s Nov. 19 meeting.

“I can’t tell you how much I will miss you all,” Lamborghini said. “What I’ve loved most is being a cheerleader for all the talented people who make up this district. I really feel so blessed. My very best wishes to the students, teachers, staff and the board - you have many challenges going forward. God’s speed.”

Lamborghini has been a resident of the Del Mar Heights area since 1972. After earning a Ph.D. in biology from Tufts University, she spent 13 years in neurobiology research at UCSD before retiring to raise her two children.

Elected to the school board in 1992, she eventually served a number of roles including board president and delegate to the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education.

“Janet has been a valuable asset to the board and the entire community,” board President Annette Easton said.

Lamborghini said she would be taking a short sabbatical from her favorite pastime, volunteering at Del Mar Heights School.

“But I will come back reenergized,” she promised.

San Diego City Council President Scott Peters declared Nov. 21 “Janet Lamborghini Day” in San Diego.
