Two people were injured early Thursday, July 10, in a single-car rollover crash near Del Mar and Carmel Valley.

Officials said the vehicle went off the street, rolled over and landed in the low-level grass area near the polo fields on the corner of El Camino Real and Via de la Valle. Fire and emergency medical teams from Del Mar, Solana Beach and San Diego responded to the scene at about 10:15 a.m.

“The driver said he dropped a water bottle and it got lodged under the brake,” said San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief David Gerboth. “He couldn’t stop, they veered off the road and overturned off the embankment.”

Although the Porsche was upside down, emergency personnel were able to open the doors without extrication equipment. After removing the trapped driver and passenger from the car, it took an eight-person team to lift the victims from the embankment to the street.

The two men inside the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
