UCSD celebrates benefits of international education with weeklong series of events

The University of California, San Diego celebrated the benefits of international education and worldwide exchange with a weeklong series of events marking the fifth annual UCSD International Education Week all week. Programs included lectures, internationally-themed meals, cultural presentations, workshops and an international student festival.

A colorful Parade of Flags featuring students, faculty and staff carrying flags representing countries throughout the world opened the week on Monday at the corner of Gilman and Myers. The parade wound through the campus, ending at International House for a tapas lunch.

An equally colorful closing ceremony included demonstrations of an Argentine tango, Cuban salsa and Hawaiian dance at noon on Friday, following an International Cafe lunch. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox joined in the festivities marking the end of IEW week.
