UCSD receives fewer applicants for fall

UC San Diego received 47,025 freshman applications for the upcoming fall semester, 340 fewer than the year before, it was announced Friday.

UCSD logged 11,483 transfer student applications for next fall, up by 1,641, or 16.7 percent, from 2008.

Mae Brown, assistant vice chancellor for admissions and enrollment services, said the slight decrease in freshman application is the result of a smaller public high school graduating class in 2009.

UCSD expects to admit 3,775 applicants for the fall semester, a reduction of about 500 students from the previous year, according to UCSD. The University of California Board of Regents recently ordered a reduction in the number of freshmen at six campuses, including UCSD.
