Volunteers needed for Saturday beach clean-up
San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego will hold their annual beach cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at a number of local beach and creek areas.
This year’s locations include Del Mar’s Powerhouse Beach, the trailhead on Rios Avenue at the San Elijo Lagoon, the campgrounds at San Elijo State Beach, Torrey Pines/Penasquitos Lagoon, Cardiff Seaside Beach, San Dieguito Lagoon/Dog Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Tourmaline Beach/Pacific Beach.
The annual event, held on the third Saturday in September, always draws thousands of volunteers, according to the organization’s Web site. Last year, they gathered up more than 94,000 pounds of trash and recyclable materials during the three-hour event.
In addition to picking up trash, the volunteers record the locations and what they found in order to track pollution.
