Baseball:

Cathedral Catholic has won three San Diego Section Division titles in last four years and has been a finalist every year over that stretch.

Now the Dons are kings of the City.

The Dons rallied from an early deficit to defeat St. Augustine 8-4 in the City Tournament title game.

The Dons trailed 2-1 going into the top of the fifth, when they scored five runs in a decisive rally. They tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to open up a 6-3 game.

Hayden Grant had homer and a double and drove in four runs to lead the Dons offensively and Michael Martin had three hits including a triple.

The victory followed a 7-3 win against San Diego on March 26 and a 2-0 victory over Patrick Henry the next day.

Evan Cassolato had two hits and two RBI to lead the Dons in the San Diego game, and Michael Martin struck out nine batters and allowed two walks in a one-hit shutout against Patrick Henry.

The Dons won for the fifth straight time as they extended their winning streak to five games.


Torrey Pines’ unbeaten streak to start the season ended at nine games as the Falcons lost to San Pasqual 4-1 in a nonleague North County tournament game on March 29 in a game that capped a wild week.

The previous day, John Rodriguez pitched a no-hitter to lead the Falcons to a 10-0 victory over Canyon Crest Academy.

Johnson, who was making just his second appearance of the season and his first start, struck out seven batters and allowed seven walks.

The Falcons combined for 13 hits in support of Johnson.

Cody Sheppard led the way three hits including two doubles and drove in three runs. Morgan Oliver and Reed Mason each had two hits, and Jake Ashby and Michael Mullen each had a double and two RBI.

The Falcons overall record for the season fell to 8-1-1.

Johnson made an impact with his bat in defeat for the Falcons against San Pasqual. He had two hits including a double and scored the Falcons only run.


Santa Fe Christian extended its winning streak to four games as the Eagles defeated Westview 5-3 in a North County tournament game on March 28.

The victory followed a 6-1 win against Oceanside the previous day.

John Gamble had three hits including a homer to lead the Eagles in the Westview game.

Bobby Zarubin had three hits including a homer to lead the Eagles in the Oceanside game. Jackson Balla contributed two hits and two RBI and Nolan Gannon had two doubles.

Gannon struck out 13 batters and allowed and four walks in six shutout innings of three-hit ball.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 11-2.


San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Tri-City Christian 10-6 in a Coastal League North game.

The loss followed their most decisive win of the season, a 17-1 league victory over Calvin Christian.

Rick Saxe had four hits and three RBI including a double to lead the Lions in the Calvin Christian game. Aaron Perez added three hits including a double and two RBI, and Ethan Lew tripled and drove in three runs.

The Lions fell to 1-2-1 in league and 3-2-1 overall for the season.

Softball:

Some of its are wins decisive, others are close calls.

Either way, Torrey Pines just keeps winning.

The Falcons extending their season-opening winning streak to 13 games in a week that featured wins of both varieties.

They trounced Morse 13-0 in a Falcon Fiesta game on March 27, then went on to defeat San Dieguito Academy 3-0 and Otay Ranch 1-0 on March 27 and 29.

Lauren Filicia had two hits including a triple and five RBI to lead the Falcons in the Morse game.

Rachel Nasland struck out eight batters and allowed no walks in four innings, combining with Lauren Hynes on a mercy-ruled five-inning no-hitter.

Taylor Lee struck out 14 batters and allowed five hits and no walks in seven innings of shutout ball in the SDA game.

Nasland struck out eight batters and allowed one walk in a two-hit shutout to lead the Falcons against Otay Ranch.

Golf:

Torrey Pines defeated San Pasqual 197-209 in a Palomar League match on March 28.

Jonah Holty shot a one-over-par 37 to lead the Falcons on a nine-hole course at Fairbanks Ranch.

Ryan Burgess and Jamie Cheatam each added 38 scores.

Girls lacrosse:

Santa Fe Christian defeated Francis Parker 19-8 in a Coastal league game on March 29.

Kayla Stryjewski and Christine Garner each scored five goals to lead the Eagles, and Brooke Wimsatt added four goals.

Eagles goalie Torey Freter contributed six saves.

The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 9-3.


Cathedral Catholic defeated Pacific Ridge 13-1 in a nonleague game on March 29.

Courtney Place scored four goals to lead the Dons and Chelsea Mapes added three goals.

Dons goalie Marie McDonald-Hulen had six saves.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 4-5.
