Cathedral Catholic may not be perfect, but the Dons are still leading the intensely competitive Eastern League.
The Dons solidified their first-place standing with a 3-1 league win against Patrick Henry on April 25.
The win followed a two-game series split with Mira Mesa, with the Dons winning the first game 3-2 on April 22 before losing 3-0 the next day.
Brady Aiken pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead the Dons in the Patrick Henry game. He struck out 11 batters and allowed no walks.
Michael Martin had a triple and two RBI to lead the Dons in the first Mira Mesa game.
The Dons were held to four hits (all singles) in the second game.
Martin, who allowed three runs on five hits and five walks in seven innings, took the loss.
The Dons improved to 5-2 in league and 16-6 overall for the season.
Torrey Pines avoided a three-game Palomar League series sweep at the hands of Westview in dramatic fashion as the Falcons rallied for a 4-3 win in the series finale on April 27 in a game that went eight innings.
The Falcons lost the series opener 7-5 on April 24 and experienced an 11-1 route the next day.
Chad Thurston had four hits to lead the Falcons in the series finale.
Mark Detrow and John Remick each added two hits.
The Falcons trailed 3-0 going into their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh when they rallied for three runs to send the game into extra innings.
Jackson Gentes pitched two shutout innings for the win in relief of Henry Grow. Grow struck out five batters and allowed three runs on five hits and five walks in six innings.
Jake Cline had two hits and two RBI and Detrow had two hits including a double in defeat for the Falcons in the series opener.
Thurston had two hits to lead Torrey Pines in the second game.
The Falcons improved to 4-5 in league and 9-15 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian split a two-game Coastal League South series with Francis Parker as the Eagles bounced back from a 1-0 loss on April 24 for a 4-2 win two days later.
Dillon Paulson took the loss in the series opener despite a great effort in which he allowed one run in six innings of three-hit ball.
The Eagles were held to four hits.
Tyler Stephens had two hits and Dean Eliott had a double and two RBI to lead the Eagles in the second game.
John Gamble pitched a complete game six hitter. He struck out eight batters and allowed two runs (one earned) and four walks.
The Eagles improved to 2-4 in league and 10-12 overall for the season.
Canyon Crest Academy took two of three games from Poway in a Palomar League series.
CCA won the first two games, 9-7 on April 23 and 3-2 two days later, but lost the finale 4-3 in a game that went eight innings.
In the series opener, the Ravens overcame a one-run deficit in their last at-bat, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh for a dramatic victory.
Austin Kay had three hits and two RBI to lead the Ravens and Alex Rejto contributed two hits and two RBI to lead the comeback win.
Riley Adams, Jack Kaloogian and Cannon Maruska each added two hits.
Kay pitched one inning of scoreless relief for the win.
Starter Dylan Gargas struck out six batters and allowed seven runs (one earned) on 10 hits and one walk in 5 2/3 innings.

The Ravens rallied from a two-run deficit in the series finale, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, but Poway tied the game in the sixth and pushed across the game-winning run in the eighth.

The Ravens improved to 4-5 in league and 9-14 overall for the season.

Emma Wong led the Falcons offensively with three hits.
Nasland struck out 11 batters and allowed three runs on four hits and one walk in the Poway game.
Mariel Cathcart led the Falcons offensively with two hits including a double and drove in their only run.
The Falcons improved to 3-3 in league and 13-8-2 overall for the season.
Canyon Crest Academy defeated Bishop’s 18-9 in a nonleague game on April 27.
The victory followed a 19-7 Palomar League victory over Rancho Bernardo two days earlier.
Katie Carlson scored nine goals and Alexa Carter had six goals and two assists to lead the Ravens in the Bishop’s game.
Ravens goalie Jessie McConville had three saves.
Nicole Hickman had four goals and four assists and Carter had five goals and two assists to lead the Ravens in the Rancho Bernardo game.
McConville had four saves.
The Ravens improved to 3-1 in league and 11-4 overall for the season.
