Santa Fe Christian kicked its ground game into high gear as the Eagles defeated Horizon Christian Academy 43-15 in a Coastal League opener for both teams on Oct. 12.
Tony Miro and Jerry Harper each surpassed the 200-rushing yard plateau to help the Eagles rack up 490 yards of total offense.
Miro rushed for 259 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries and Harper gained 203 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns on 23 carries.
Darrian Borboa led the Eagles defensively with 13 tackles and Sam Ray contributed three sacks and nine tackles.
Nayan Jaitly added 10 tackles.
The Eagles improved their overall record for the season to 4-3.
San Diego Jewish Academy continued its strong start as the Lions rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Army-Navy 21-13 in a Pacific League opener for both teams on Oct. 10.
The Lions won their third straight game to start the season, their best start since 2009, when they were 4-0 in their inaugural season playing 11-man football (the program played 8-man football before that).
The Lions trailed 13-7 at the intermission but went on to score two unanswered touchdowns in the second half.
Tomer Baltinester rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries to lead the Lions.
Lions quarterback Jordan Battaglia completed seven of 13 pass attempts for 88 yards with no interceptions, and Jake Posnock rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown on five carries.
Posnock was a defensive standout for the Lions, contributing 17 tackles.
Adam Sloane contributed nine tackles and 2.5 sacks, and Judah Rosenzweig added nine tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Cathedral Catholic opened Eastern League play with a resounding 42-3 victory over Scripps Ranch on Oct. 11.
The victory was the Dons third straight.
Chris Moliga rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries to lead the Dons.
Brett Sarem led the Dons defensively with 11 tackles and one sack.
Torrey Pines extended its winning streak to four games as the Falcons defeated Poway 35-21 in a Palomar League opener for both teams on Oct. 11.
The Falcons opened up a 28-0 lead before Poway got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter.
The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 5-1.
San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Escondido Charter 3-1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-14, 27-25) in a Pacific League game on Oct. 8.
Sara Chitlik had seven kills to lead the Lions and Savanna Lurie contributed 14 assists.
The Lions fell to 0-2 in league and 7-2 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian lost to Calvin Christian 3-1 (28-26, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23) in a Coastal League game on Oct. 10.
Hannah Mathiesen had 24 kills to lead the Eagles and Emily Hubbard added 10 kills. Eagles setter Mia Kelter contributed 29 assists.
The Eagles fell to 0-2 in league and 6-11 overall for the season.
Santa Fe Christian lost to Valley Center 23-22 in overtime in an Avocado League East game on Oct. 11.
The loss followed a 16-13 league win against Escondido on Oct. 8.
Bennett Royce scored nine goals to lead the Eagles in the Escondido game and goalie Jack Atkinson contributed 12 saves.
Cathedral Catholic defeated Coronado 12-0 in a Western League game on Oct. 10.
Cody Smith scored four goals to lead the Dons and Jordan Colina added three goals. Dons goalie Joe Cleary contributed 10 saves.

The victory followed a 7-0 win against Del Norte in a nonleague game two days earlier.
Alie Zimmer scored two goals and Shannon Yogerst scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Falcons in the Poway game.
Sammy Cirino and Madi Coughlin each contributed one goal and Gabi Jimenez and Clare Young each added one assist.
Falcons goalie Grace Trupe had one save.
Coughlin scored two goals and Zimmer scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Falcons in the Del Norte game.
Callie Petrey-Juarez scored one goal and had one assist.
Falcons goalies Trupe and Katie Gitre combined on the shutout.
The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 11-4.
Canyon Crest Academy defeated Poway 5-1 in a Palomar League opener for both teams on Oct. 9.
Katie Carlson scored three goals and had one assist to lead the Ravens and Gabby De Petro added two goals and one assist.
Ali King contributed one assist.
The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 13-2.
Cathedral Catholic defeated Hilltop 5-0 in a nonleague game on Oct. 8.
Peyton Mowery scored two goals to lead the Dons and Kira Williamson contributed one goal and one assist.
Emma Hall and Emily Nora each added one goal and Paige Kelly had one assist.
Dons goalie Abi Grosse, who was credited with the shutout, had three saves.
The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 10-8.
