Basketball:

Torrey Pines closed out the Under Armour Classic tournament with an impressive 44-36 victory over Lawndale (Los Angeles County) in a National Division game on Dec. 30.

The Falcons’ win was their third straight.

The victory followed a 45-36 Under Armour tournament win against Westchester of Los Angeles the previous day.

Dominic Hovasse scored 18 points and had six rebounds to lead the Falcons in the Lawndale game. Timmy Saunders added 14 points.

Hovasse scored 11 points to lead the Falcons in the Westchester game. Marek Sullivan and Jackson Strong each added nine points.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 13-2.

La Costa Canyon experienced its third straight defeat as the Mavericks lost to Foothills Christian, 49-47, in an Under Armour tournament National Division game on Dec. 30.

Tommy McCarthy scored 16 points in defeat for the Mavericks, and Brady Twombly added 15 points.

The defeat followed a 66-58 loss to Prime Prep (Dallas, Texas) in an Under Armour tournament game the previous day.

Twombly scored 23 points to lead the Mavericks and McCarthy added 15 points.

The Mavericks fell to 10-4 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Kern Valley of Lake Isabella (Kern County) in a Tri-City tournament game on Dec. 31.

Jordan Battaglia scored 16 points in defeat for the Lions, and Cody Brown added seven points.

The defeat followed a 51-44 victory over Guajome Park Academy in a Tri-City tournament game the previous day.

Battaglia scored 15 points to lead the Lions and Aaron Perez added 12 points.

The Lions went 1-3 in the tournament as their overall record for the season fell to 5-8.

Girls basketball:

Torrey Pines finished the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic strong, winning its last two games of the four-game tournament after losing its first two.

The Falcons closed out the tournament Dec. 30 with an 84-81 victory over Foothill (Henderson, Nev.).

Sierra Campisano scored 39 points and had 19 rebounds to lead the Falcons, and Christina Ellis added 22 points and nine boards.

Madison Lombard contributed 18 points and seven assists.

The victory followed a 71-63 SoCal Holiday Prep tournament win against Mater Dei Catholic the previous day.

Ellis scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds and six steals to lead the Falcons, and Campisano added 17 points and 24 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Ayli Tulberg contributed 10 points and Lombard added eight points.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 10-4.

Cathedral Catholic defeated Ramona 65-47 in a SoCal Holiday Prep Classic tournament game on Dec. 30.

Sarah Mosser scored 24 points to lead the Dons, and Catherine Smedley added 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Mosser also had seven steals and five assists.

The victory followed a 55-52 SoCal Holiday Prep tournament loss to Lawndale (Los Angeles County) the previous day.

Alaina Alvarez scored 13 points in defeat for the Dons, and Michaela Montgomery added 10 points and 17 rebounds.

The Dons improved their overall record for the season to 6-6.

La Costa Canyon defeated Eastlake 50-40 in a a SoCal Holiday Classic tournament game on Dec. 30.

The Mavericks improved their overall record for the season to 11-2.

Rachel Dumiak scored 14 points to lead the Mavericks, and Taylor Pierce and Cassie Amundson each added 11 points.

The victory followed a 69-58 loss to Garces of Bakersfield in a SoCal Holiday Classic tournament game the previous day.

Dumiak scored 20 points in defeat for the Mavericks, and Pierce and Amundson added 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The Mavericks went 2-2 in the tournament as they improved their overall record for the season to 11-2.

Canyon Crest Academy had its season-opening six-game winning streak snapped as the Ravens lost to San Diego, 54-53, in overtime in a SoCal Holiday Classic Prep Division game on Dec. 30.

Ally Deremer scored 14 points in defeat for the Ravens, and McKenna Platt added nine points.

The loss followed a 53-31 SoCal Holiday tournament victory over Valhalla earlier in the day in which Deremer led the Ravens with 21 points and Platt added 16 points.

Sarah Teruya led the Ravens defensively throughout the tournament.

The Ravens went 3-1 in the tournament, placing second in the Prep Division.

Girls soccer:

Torrey Pines defeated Mission Vista 3-1 in a SoCal Classic tournament game on Dec. 29.

Jordyn Garfein scored two goals to lead the Falcons and Katie Dove added one goal.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 4-2-2.

Boys soccer:

Torrey Pines and Cathedral Catholic played to a 3-3 tie in a nonleague game on Jan. 3.

Asher Booth scored two goals to lead the Falcons, and Greg Matus contributed two asissts.

Simon Dinkin and Michael Poulos added one goal and one assist, respectively.

Milo Barton, Billy Garton and Justin Glaser each scored one goal for the Dons.

Kian Vidarsson and Daniel Mahjouri each added one assist.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 8-2-2, and the Dons improved to 5-1-2.
