The week in sports: Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach

Boys basketball:

• Cathedral Catholic defeated University City 76-61 in a Western League game on Jan. 16.

Austin Beech scored 19 points to lead the Dons, and Kyle Kappes added 17 points.

The victory followed a 50-29 league win against Scripps Ranch on Jan. 13.

The Dons improved to 2-1 in league and 9-6 overall for the season.

• Torrey Pines defeated El Capitan 67-20 in a nonleague game on Jan. 12.

Timmy Saunders and Jordan Shen each scored 11 points to lead the Falcons, and Dominic Hovasse and Jack Beach each added eight points.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 16-2.

• La Costa Canyon defeated Mission Hills 54-43 in a nonleague game on Jan. 13.

Travis Fuller scored 20 points to lead the Mavericks, and Tommy McCarthy added 18 points.

The Mavericks improved to 12-5 overall for the season.

• San Diego Jewish Academy lost to Maranatha Christian 49-40 in a nonleague game on Jan. 15.

Jordan Battaglia led the Lions with 16 points.

The loss followed a 54-43 nonleague victory over Escondido Charter two days earlier in which Battaglia scored 18 points to lead the Lions and Cody Brown added nine points.

The Lions fell to 6-11 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

• Cathedral Catholic defeated University City 61-25 in a Western League game on Jan. 16.

Sarah Mosser scored 18 points to lead the Dons and Amy Wikle added 11 points.

Alaina Alvarez added 10 points and Michaela Montgomery contributed four points and 18 rebounds.

The victory followed a 66-47 league win against Scripps Ranch three days earlier in which Mosser led the Dons with 19 points and Alvarez and Wikle added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Dons improved to 3-0 in league and 9-7 overall for the season.

• Torrey Pines defeated Ramona 71-56 in a nonleague game on Jan. 14.

Sierra Campisano scored 33 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons, and Christina Ellis added 13 points and eight assists.

Ayli Tulberg added 11 points and eight assists.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 11-5.

• La Costa Canyon defeated Poway 53-52 in a nonleague game on Jan. 16.

Rachel Dumiak scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs and Taylor Pierce added 12 points.

The Mustangs improved their overall record for the season to 14-3.

• Canyon Crest Academy defeated San Dieguito Academy 51-28 in a nonleague game on Jan. 16.

Jonique George-Davis and Jessica Morilak each scored nine points in defeat for the Mustangs.

The Ravens improved their overall record for the season to 9-2. The Mustangs fell to 1-10.

Girls soccer:

• Santa Fe Christian defeated Mission Vista 6-0 in a nonleague game on Jan. 15.

Hollie Pelland scored three goals to lead the Eagles, and Alden Schneider added one goal and one assist.

Chloe Frisch and Hallee Bathard each scored one goal, and Avery Van Houten and Ali Whiting each added two assists.

Eagles goalies Erin Vandertie and Kat Miro each had one save.

The victory followed a 4-1 Coastal League win against Pacific Ridge on Jan. 14 in which Pelland led the Eagles with two goals and one assist, and Van Houten and Gabby Borboa each added one goal.

The Eagles improved to 2-0-1 in league and 6-1-1 overall for the season.

• Cathedral Catholic defeated Coronado 5-0 in a Western League game on Jan. 16.

Shelby Cormier scored two goals to lead the Dons. Riley Marshall, Dana Dalton and Sunny Dunphy each added one goal and Niamh Nelson contributed two assists.

The win followed a 5-1 league victory over University City two days earlier.

The Dons improved to 2-0 in league and 14-1-2 overall for the season.

• Torrey Pines defeated Ramona 7-0 in a nonleague game on Jan. 15.

Anissa Dadkhah scored one goal and had two assists to lead the Falcons.

Falcons goalies Veronica Romines and Sherrie Antoun combined for the shutout.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 6-2-4.

• La Costa Canyon defeated San Dieguito Academy 2-0 in a nonleague game on Jan. 15.

Ruby Hellstrom and Genesis Lucero each scored one goal to lead the Mavericks and Kelsey Aaknes and Danielle Goad each added one assist.

The Mavericks improved their overall record for the season to 7-1-3. The Mustangs fell to 5-5-1.

Boys soccer:

• Torrey Pines defeated San Dieguito Academy 2-1 in a nonleague game on Jan. 16.

Asher Booth scored two goals to lead the Falcons off assists from Simon Dinkin and Bailey Buckley.

The Falcons improved their overall record for the season to 9-4. The Mustangs fell to 8-4.
