Work starts on school lot

Rancho Santa Fe School District Superintendent Lindy Delaney said she heard the hammering and construction noises and almost forgot it was her school the crews were working on.

On Monday, May 4, the R. Roger Rowe renovation officially kicked off as the school’s front parking lot was fenced off and crews began work on the concrete. To deal with the lack of parking spaces, the staff is using a satellite parking lot with two shuttle vans taking them in to work.

“Things are going very well,” Delaney said.

Construction bid packages are set to go out in about eight weeks and Delaney said the district is staying on schedule for the 14-month process that will result in a new school campus by August 2010.

On May 11, the school’s top blacktop closed and portables will be in place by May 18 for the interim campus. When school is out on June 8, teachers will be able to move their classroom items into the portables.

The school’s library will be packed up on May 26. During construction, students will use the Rancho Santa Fe Library.
