Football:

Torrey Pines defeated La Costa Canyon 41-9 to clinch the Avocado League championship in a regular season finale for both teams on Nov. 4.Sully O’Brien rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns (both on 17 carries) and caught four passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Falcons.

Luke Duerr rushed for 160 yards and quarterback Miles Hastings completed 4 of 7 pass attempts for 100 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Mavericks quarterback Jake Neufeld completed 22 of 34 passes for 280 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Tanner Clark caught six passes for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Neufeld also rushed for 45 yards. Taj Sherman led the Mavericks defensively with 17 tackles. The Falcons improved to 5-1 in league and 8-2 overall for the season. The Mavericks fell to 3-3 in league and 5-5 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic put the finishing touches on a perfect regular season with a 31-7 victory over Madison in a Western League game on Nov. 4. Dons quarterback Tate Haynes completed 7 of 11 pass attempts for 177 yards and two touchdowns. The Dons improved to 4-0 in league and 10-0 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian defeated La Jolla Country Day 49-21 in a Coastal League game on Nov. 4. The Eagles secured sole possession of second place with the victory. Hank Ontiveros rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries to lead the Eagles. Caleb Armendariz rushed for 42 yards and two touchdowns and Josh Thompson rushed for 65 yards. Reece Walker had 11 tackles and Caleb Phillips had 10 tackles to lead the Eagles defensivley. The Eagles improved to 4-1 in league and 8-2 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Rock Academy 55-22 in an Ocean League 8-man game on Nov. 3. Jordan Battaglia completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 319 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Battaglia also rushed for 80 yards and one touchdown.Cody Brown caught six passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions rolled up 541 yards of total offense.Joshua Nachassi and David Smith each had 17 tackles to lead the Lions defensively.Gabriel Dorenbaum had one interception. The Lions improved to 2-2 in league and 5-2 overall for the season.The Lions didn’t qualify for the playoffs despite being ranked No. 4 in Division VI because the San Diego Section requires qualifying teams to play a minimum of nine games. The Lions play a shorter schedule because a large percentage of SDJA’s students participate in other activities over the summer. Battaglia was named the Ocean League’s Offensive Player of the Year and SDJA’s Ilan LevyPunter was named the league’s Kicker of the Year. Both were unanimous selections.

Volleyball:

Torrey Pines defeated Eastlake 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 27-25) in an Open Division playoff quarterfinal on Nov. 4.Jaden Whitmarsh had 11 kills and nine digs and Brynn Chandler had nine kills and 13 assists to lead the Falcons.Kiara McNulty had 14 assists and Daniela Fornaciari had three blocks.The Falcons improved to 10-0 in league and 27-4 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian defeated Cathedral Catholic 3-2 in an Open Division playoff quarterfinal on Nov. 4.Lexi Sun had 28 kills to lead the Eagles and Emily Hubbard had 14 kills.The Eagles improved to 27-7 overall for the season. The Dons fell to 24-8.

La Costa Canyon defeated Canyon Crest Academy 3-2( 25-20, 25-20, 13-25, 16-25, 15-7) in an Open Division quarterfinal on Nov. 4.The Mavericks improved to 22-9 overall for the season. The Ravens fell to 18-10.

Water polo:

San Dieguito Academy lost to Canyon Crest Academy 16-12 in a nonleague game on Nov. 1. Nate Conger and Sam Dumont each scored three goals to lead the Mustangs. Mustangs goalie Dylan Herrera had 10 saves. The Mustangs fell to 18-12 overall for the season.

Field hockey:

Torrey Pines defeated Canyon Crest Academy 2-1 in an Avocado League West game on Nov. 3. The Ravens were previously unbeaten in league.Ryan Poe and Skylar Sage each scored one goal to lead the Falcons and Kristin Bitter had one assist. Falcons goalie Jaden Watkins had seven saves. The Falcons improved to 5-2 in league and 12-9-1 overall for the season. The Mustangs fell to 6-1 in league and 11-6 overall for the season.
