Football:

Cathedral Catholic rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Helix 35-28 in a nonleague game on Sept. 16.Dons quarterback Tate Haynes completed 11 of 14 passes for 193 yards with three touchdowns to lead the comeback.The Dons trailed 28-7 early in the third quarter before closing out the game with 28 unanswered points.The game was a rematch of last year’s Open Division semifinal. The Dons avenged a 42-14 loss in that game.The Dons improved to 4-0 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines defeated El Camino 7-3 in a nonleague game on Sept. 16. The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Julian 34-22 in a nonleague game on Sept. 15.The Lions improved to 2-0 overall for the season.

Volleyball:

San Dieguito Academy defeated Westview 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 26-24) in a nonleague match on Sept. 15.Sarah Colla had 18 kills to lead the Mustangs and Kianha Holmen added 15 kills.Kathleen Brown and Faith Kelly each had 15 assists and Kelly Burns contributed 11 assists.The victory followed a 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-19) nonleague win against Mission Hills two days earlier.Colla had 17 kills to lead the Mustangs and Holmen added 10 kills.Brown had 15 assists and Savannah Hyndman and Kellly added 10 and nine assists, respectively.The Mustangs improved to 10-1 overall for the season.

Canyon Crest Academy defeated Ramona 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-10) in a nonleague match on Sept. 16.Ashley Sung had 17 kills and 17 digs and setter Olivia Lovenberg had 50 assists to lead the Ravens.Olivia Schewe added 15 kills.

The Ravens improved to 2-1 overall for the season.

Santa Fe Christian defeated La Jolla Country Day 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-11) in a Coastal League match on Sept. 14.Leix Sun had 26 kills to lead the Eagles and Alea Fregoso had eight aces.The Eagles improved to 10-1 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines went 5-2 in the prestigious Durango Tournament.Jaden Whitmarsh had 10 kills and Brynn Chandler had 21 assists to lead the Falcons to a 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) victory over Mira Costa on Sept. 17.Earlier in the day the Falcons defeated Marlborough of Los Angeles 2-0 (25-23, 25-15). Alexis Filippone had six kills to lead the Falcons and Chandler and Whitmarsh each added five kills.Kiara McNultly had 10 assists and Chandler had seven assists.

The Falcons won their first four matches before losing two or their last three.They defeated Woodrow Wilson of Long Beach 2-0 (25-8, 25-18) in the tournament opener on Sept. 16 as Filippone had seven kills and Chandler had 16 assists.Later in the day they defeated Harvard-Westlake of Studio City 2-0 (25-19, 25-16) and McQueen of Reno (Nev.) 2-0 (25-13, 25-14).

Filippone and Whitmarsh each had six kills to lead the Falcons in the Harvard-Westlake match and McNulty had 12 assists.Chandler had 13 assists and Emily Fitzner had eight assists and three kills in the McQueen match.The Falcons improved to 7-2 overall for the season.

Water polo:

San Dieguito Academy defeated El Cajon Valley 21-1 in a nonleague match on Sept. 15.Kekoa Wheeler scored four goals and had one assist and Jack Stevenson scored three goals and had one assist to lead the Mustangs.Mustangs goalies Conner Dahl and Wesley Tyler had five and three saves, respectively.The victory followed a 17-12 nonleague win against Rancho Buena Vista the previous day in which Matheus Gensler scored seven goals and had four assists to lead the Mustangs and Nate Conger added four goals and one assist.The Mustangs improved to 4-1 overall for the season.

Cross country:

The La Costa Canyon girls’ team had two runners win their respective divisions at the Sept. 17 Mt. Carmel Invitational meet at Morley Field.Kristin Fahy won the Division II sophomore heat, running the rugged 2.75-mile course in 15 minutes and 41.0 seconds. McKenna Brown won the Division II juniors race, clocking a 15:57.0. Jessica Reidman (16:27.4) placed second for the Mavericks in the sophomore heat.

Field hockey:

La Costa Canyon went 3-0 at the Sept. 17 Serra Tournament.The Mavericks shutout all three opponents playing in Pool D.They concluded the tournament with a 1-0 victory over San Pasqual, as Kendall Nicholas scored the game’s only goal.Mavericks goalie Marina Keller had five saves.The Mavericks opened the tournament with a 4-0 victory over Hilltop, as Cassidy Solomon and C.J. Jones each had one goal and one assist.Keller had two saves.Keller had four saves and Riley Laver, Madison Theodore and Nicholas each scored one goal to lead the Mavericks in a 3-0 victory over La Jolla.

The Mavericks improved to 7-1 overall for the season.
