Water polo:
San Dieguito Academy is in unchartered waters.Literally.The No. 3 seeded Mustangs became the first team in program history to advance to the San Diego Section semifinals after defeating No. 6 Classical Academy 11-7 in a quarterfinal game on Nov. 12.The Mustangs were scheduled to meet Olympian on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at La Jolla High School.Matheus Gensler scored three goals to lead the Mustangs and Sam Dumont and Kekoa Wheeler each scored two goals.Zach Lewis, Wes Tyler, Max Van Loan and Carl Winner each scored one goal. Mustangs goalie Dylan Herrera had seven saves.The Mustangs improved to 19-12 overall for the season.
Football:Santa Fe Christian advanced to the San Diego Section Division III quarterfinals as the No. 5 seeded Eagles trounced No. 12 Chula Vista 55-0 in an opening round game on Nov. 11.The win was the Eagles’ sixth straight.Demitri Washington rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries to lead an Eagles’ backfield by committee that combined for 401 rushing yards.Washington was among 12 Eagles ball carriers on the day, five of whom scored at least one touchdown. Joe Burich rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns on three carries. Isaiah Love (48 rushing yards), Jackson Miles (42 rushing yards and Case Baptista (36 rushing yards) each rushed for one touchdown.
Josh Thompson rushed for 51 yards on two carries.Eagles quarterback Conner Whitton was a perfect 5 for 5 passing for 80 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.Matthew McRoskey had two receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown.Gavin Dill led the Eagles defensively with nine tackles and two sacks.Will Littlejohn had one interception.Bradley Weeks had five tackles and Caleb Phillips had four tackles.The Eagles improved to 9-2 overall for the season.
Volleyball:
Santa Fe Christian defeated La Costa Canyon 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-14) in an Open Division playoff game on Nov. 13.Lexi Sun had 20 kills and three blocks to lead the Eagles and Emily Hubbard had 11 kills and three aces.Sara Jones had six blocks for SFC and Alea Fregoso had three aces.Bronte Zlomek led LCC with 13 kills and Jamie McQuarrie had 12 kills.Michelle Polechonski had four blocks and Morgan Lewis added five kills.
The Mavericks fell to 23-10 overall for the season.SFC rallied from an early deficit to defeat Torrey Pines 3-2 (14-25, 25-17, 20-25, 16-25, 15-9) in second round playoff game on Nov. 8.Sun had 30 kills and five aces, Hubbard had 12 kills and Kathleen Philo had 43 assists as the Eagles bounced back from a 1-0 deficit and 2-1 deficits.Camryn Tastad had 12 digs and Fregoso had 11 digs and Kathleen Philo had five aces.Jaden Whitmarsh had 17 kills and Alexis Filippone had 16 kills to lead the Falcons.Falcons setters Brynn Chadler and Kiara McNulty combined for 55 assists. The Eagles improved to 30-7 overall for the season.The Falcons fell to 27-5 overall for the season.
Field hockey:
La Costa Canyon defeated Torrey Pines 5-1 in an Avocado League West game on Nov. 8.Kendall Nicholas scored two goals to lead the Mavericks and C.J. Jones scored one goal and had one assist.Lindsay Fessinger and Jenna Greer each scored one goal and Summer Borsack had two assists.Mavericks goalie Marina Keller had five saves.
Skylar Sage scored one goal and Arielle Shahrabani had one assist to lead Torrey Pines. Falcons goalie Jaden Watkins had 12 saves.The Mavericks improved to 6-2 in league and 19-5 overall for the season. The Falcons fell to 5-3 in league and 12-10-1 overall for the season.
Golf:
Torrey Pines placed sixth overall at the Southern California Regional Championship at Arrowhead Country Club (San Bernardino).The Falcons shot a combined 398 on the 18-hole par-72 course.Carolyn Zhao and Jung Min Park each shot a 75 to lead the Falcons.
