The week in sports: Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach

Boys basketball:

Torrey Pines breezed through the first round of Palomar League play, winning its first five games by an average margin of 22.8 points.

The Falcons are on their way to an even more decisive second round after opening the second half of league with a 72-29 shellacking of Westview on Feb. 6 that extended their winning streak to 13 games.

Jack Beach led the route with 19 points, and Dominic Hovasse added 13 points. Timmy Saunders and Jackson each contributed nine points.

The victory followed what for the Falcons was a narrow 60-54 league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier in which Hovasse scored 19 points and Timmy Saunders added 14 points.

The Falcons improved to 6-0 in league and 23-2 overall for the season.

Cathedral Catholic defeated University City 64-42 in a Western League game on Feb. 6.

Austin Beech scored 18 points to lead the Dons. Cameron Moore and Reid Johnson each added 16 points.

The Dons improved to 6-2 in league and 13-7 overall for the season.

San Diego Jewish Academy defeated Del Lago Academy 49-30 in an Ocean League game on Feb. 5.

Aaron Perez scored 12 points to lead the Lions, and Jordan Battaglia added eight points.

The victory followed a 50-42 league win against Classical Academy two days earlier in which Ilya Levin led the Lions with 12 points, and Battaglia and Ari Lew added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lions improved to 2-0 in league and 8-12 overall for the season.

La Costa Canyon defeated Vista 55-36 in an Avocado League West game on Feb. 3.

Tommy McCarthy scored 21 points to lead the Mavericks and Travis Fuller added 15 points.

The Mavericks improved to 4-0 in league and 17-6 overall for the season.

Girls basketball:

Cathedral Catholic extended its winning streak to eight games with another decisive Western League victory.

The Dons opened the second round of league with a 56-22 victory over University City on Feb. 6. Their average margin of victory through eight league games is 28.8 points.

Amy Wikle scored 11 points to lead the Dons and Alaina Alvarez added 10 points.

The Dons improved to 8-0 in league and 15-7 overall for the season.

Torrey Pines defeated Santa Fe Christian 88-65 in a nonleague game on Feb. 7.

Sierra Campisano scored 36 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Falcons, and Madison Lombard added 33 points.

The victory was the Falcons’ fifth straight. It followed a 67-48 Palomar League victory over Westview on Feb. 6 and a 78-61 league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier.

Campisano led the Falcons in the Westview game with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Christina Ellis added 19 points and 11 rebounds. Ayli Tulberg contributed 14 points.

Campisano led the Falcons against Rancho Bernardo with 34 points and 16 rebounds, and Ellis and Tulberg added 22 and 13 points, respectively.

The Falcons improved to 5-1 in league and 17-7 overall for the season.

La Costa Canyon lost to Bishop’s 82-69 in a nonleague game on Feb. 7.

Rachel Dumiak scored 23 points in defeat for the Mavericks, and Taylor Pierce and Cassie Amundson added 17 and 13 points, respectively.

The loss followed a 70-34 victory over Vista in an Avocado League West game on Feb. 3 in which Pierce led the Mavericks with 20 points and Dumiak added 16 points.

Jessica Curtis and Kelly Reed added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

The Mavericks improved to 4-0 in league and 18-5 overall for the season.

Girls soccer:

Cathedral Catholic defeated Coronado 3-0 in a Western League game on Feb. 6.

Olivia Erlbeck scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Dons. Riley Marshall and Giovanna Brunetto each added one goal, and Jessica Clegg contributed two assists.

Dons goalies Erin Kelly and Emily Sanchez combined for the shutout.

The Dons improved to 5-1 in league and 18-3-2 overall for the season.

San Dieguito Academy defeated Escondido 3-1 in an Avocado League East game on Feb. 6.

Miriam Bloom scored one goal and had one assist to lead the Mustangs. Samantha Mead and Jenna Kintner each added one goal, and Juna Bouchekara and Brittney Reppenhagen each contributed one assist.

Mustangs goalie Parker Rytz had 10 saves.

The Mustangs were also led by defensive standout Erin Maxwell.

The Mustangs improved to 2-4 in league and 7-9-1 overall for the season.

The loss followed a 3-2 league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier in which Sarah Trissel, Anissa Dadkhah and Daniela Nelson each scored one goal and Eva Buechler contributed one assist.

The Falcons improved to 4-2 in league and 10-4-4 overall for the season.

Boys soccer:

Bailey Buckley and Asher Booth each scored two goals and had one assist to lead the Falcons. Matthew Botsford added two goals. Blake McAtee contributed one goal and one assist.

The victory followed a 5-2 league win against Rancho Bernardo two days earlier in which Booth led the Falcons with four goals.

The Falcons improved to 5-0 -1 in league and 14-4-4 overall for the season.
